The Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 (PDP Bill 2019) was tabled in the Indian Parliament in December 2019. Currently, this Bill is under discussion with JPC and can become a reality any time soon. The Bill covers mechanisms for protecting personal data and proposes the setting up of a Data Protection Authority of India for the same. The implications of this Bill are many folds for the Indian organizations, and as a CIO and CISO, it is evident that this will bring a lot of changes in the existing IT landscape. CIOs Of India has tied up with FDPPI for bringing awareness about these laws. We participated in Indian Data Protection Summit 2020 (IDPS2020).

We are planning to have another session on Data Privacy. This program's objective is to sensitize the CIO community for the need to keep themselves abreast of the new Data Protection Law that is likely to cause significant disruption in the executive structure in an organization. The DPO will be a senior designation that will supersede the CIO and CISO in the corporate structure hierarchy.

This introductory session will provide an overview of the Act and why it is essential for the CIOs. We look forward to discussing how Information Security is different from Data Security and why a DPO would be a critical top management executive in future IT organizations.
